形態特徵

Culms 1-5m tall, 1-3 cm in diam., occasionally reaching a height of 10 m, 4.5 cm in diam., young culms glaucous; nodes prominent with numerous branches; internodes 12-30 cm long, with dense brown appressed hairs below nodes; walls 4-7 mm thick.
Sheath of culm glabrous outside, margins entire; auricles of sheath small, sometimes inconspicuous; ligule of sheath narrow; blade of sheath narrowly triangular, acute. Leaves commonly 5-15, sometimes to 20, linear-lanceolate, 6-20 cm long, 1-2 cm broad, acuminate, rounded at base, spinulose-scabrous along one margin, sparsely so along other, whitish, pubescent beneath, veins 5-7, veinlets 5-8, parallel; petiole short, 2-4 mm long; auricles of leaf conspicuous, ovate, with tufts of brown bristles; ligule of leaf rounded or truncate, aristate; sheath of leaf 2-4 cm long, sparsely pubescent outside.
Spikelets single, sometimes 2-3 at nodes of leafless branches, 3-4 cm long, 5 mm in diam., 4-8 flowered; glumes 2, broadly ovate, 4-6 mm long, 3-4 mm wide, glabrous; lemma ovate-oblong, 12-20 mm long, 6-9 mm wide, glabrous, veins 19-23; palea 12-18 mm long, 4-6 mm wide, minutely hairy at tip, veins 11 between keels, 3-4 between each keel and edge; gynoecium 8 mm long; ovary obovate, 1.2-2 mm long, 0.8-1.5 mm in diam., with 3 vascular strands seen in cross section; style short with 3 feathery stigmas; stamens 6, filarnents 10-22 mm long, anthers yellow, 7-12 mm long; lodicules 3, unequal, 3-4 mm long, margins glabrous. Fruit elliptic, 9-9.5 mm long, 2.5-2.8 mm in diam., grooved abaxially, roughly hairy above, ending in a short beak.

台灣 : Introduced. Widely and commonly planted as a windbreak between fields throughout the island, at low elevations.
